The European Parliament held a debate on Friday about Georgia, followed by the adoption of a special resolution, Trend reports.
This is the first resolution adopted by the European Parliament after the Georgian parliamentary elections on October 1.
MPs in the resolution congratulated the Georgian people on a major step towards the consolidation of democracy and welcomed the elections, which in the opinion of OSCE monitors were conducted according to international standards and noted that these elections were crucial for the democratic development of Georgia, for the political future of the country.
EU MPs also welcomed the statement of the President of Georgia, who conceded the defeat of his party very soon after the election.
