Spokesman of the US State Department Patrick Ventrella said that the US was disappointed with the Syrian National Council and planned to replace opposition leaders in Syria. The problem will be discussed at a conference organized by the Friends of Syria Group in Doha (Qatar).
The official did not give names but he said that they will engage in organizational and practical work. This means that the talks in Doha may concern formation of a transitional government if Bashar al-Assad’s regime falls.
US Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford, withdrawn from Damascus in February, will represent the US delegation in Doha.
