Georgian former Minister for Defense and Interior Affairs Bacho Akhalaya, Chief of Joint Staff Georgy Kalandadze and Commander of the Fourth Bridage of the Defense Ministry Zurab Shamatava have been charged with excess of authority, News Georgia reports.
They were detained on Tuesday night. They will be charged officially on November 8, layer David Dekanoidze said.
Georgian Chief Prosecutor Archil Kbilashvili said that the three were detained according to lawsuits of six soldiers, who were reportedly beaten and abused. The soldiers were taken to the base in Vaziani where they were abused.
Officials of the United National Movement call it a political persecution of opponents. Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili said that the case had nothing to do with politics.
