Gerasimov becomes Russian Chief of General Staff

Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved Lieutenant-General Valery Gerasimov, Commander of the Central Military District, as the Chief of General Staff, RIA Novosti reports.

Gerasimov was introduced by Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu and will replace Army General Nikolai Makarov.
