Georgian PM wants to improve ties with Russia for integration in Europe

 

Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili is on a visit to Brussels where he met President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and discussed ties with Russia. Ivanishvili said that he will do his best to improve ties with Russia.

Barroso approved appointment of Zurab Abashidze as the special envoy for relations with Russia. He confirmed recognition of Georgian territorial unity by the EU.

Ivanishvili emphasized that integration in Europe and NATO was still a priority for Georgia.

The sides signed an agreement on association, bilateral free trade regime and simplification of the visa regime for visiting EU states. Ivanishvili expressed hope for signing agreements on association, free trade and development of an action plan for liberalization of the visa regime with the EU before the meeting in Vilnius.
