Vladimir Ponejevsky of the Russian parliamentary committee for constitutional legislature and state construction has introduced a bill on deprivation of immunity for MPs or senators, RIA Novosti reports.
The Constitution says that only the prosecutor general has the right to deprive them of immunity. Ponejevsky’s bill clarifies that deprivation of immunity is initiated by the prosecutor general.
The procedure was a subject during a court process of Vladimir Bessonov. He was charged with trying to hit a police officer during protests. Deprivation of his immunity was initiated by the Investigative Committee. But the parliament declined it.
