Russian Institute for Strategic Studies opens office in Stavropol

The Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS) has opened the North Caucasus Regional Information and Analysis Center (Center for Strategic Studies) in Yessentuki (Stavropol Territory), Yuga.ru reports.

Lieutenant-General Leonid Reshetnikov, Director of the RISS, PhD in History, said that it was the 8th regional office of the organization.

Yana Amelina, head of the sector for Caucasus studies of the RISS, said that a third of materials concerned radical Islam. Other topics were interethnic tensions, migration and the Cherkess problem.

Prof. Alexander Portnyagin, head of the center, said that the main goal was to make analytical reports on social affairs, demography, economy and religion in the North Caucasus.
