A meeting between Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and EU European Council President Herman Van Rompuy was held on Wednesday in Brussels. The parties discussed the progress made by Georgia in recent years, Trend reports.
The President of the EU European Council particularly highlighted the results achieved by the previous government in integration into the European bodies.
At the meeting, special attention was paid to the agreements on free trade and visa-free communication and success achieved in this regard. During the talks, Herman Van Rompuy said the country has achieved great results, and expressed the hope that the new government of Georgia will continue this course.
Following the meeting, Saakashvili and Van Rompuy made a joint statement.
"We talked about the aspirations of Georgia to join the EU, in free trade and the progress made towards a formal agreement on visa-free travel. The EU also reiterated its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia," Van Rompuy said.
