Russia will punish illegal migrants with large fines or five years of prison. The Cabinet will consider related amendments to the Criminal Code today, the governmental press service reports.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev noted that the maximum fine for illegal migration should total 300,000 rubles and the maximum conviction should reach 5 years.
Violations of migration rules are becoming more regular every year. They have almost doubled in the last 5 years. The government set quotas of 1.745 million foreign workers, exceeding that of 2011 and 2012. The quota for foreign workers in the Moscow Region was reduced by 45% in 2013.
