The US Congress plans to discuss the Jackson-Vanik amendment today and may replace it with the Magnitsky list with new sanctions for violation of the human rights. Russia promised a counter-measures for the Magnitsky list, Vesti reports.
The Jackson-Vanik amendment was passed in 1974 due to migration restrictions in the USSR and frozen in 1989. The Budget Committee of the US House of Representatives approved lifting of the amendment and recommended it to be connected with the Magnitsky list in August.
US-Russian trade turnover totaled $42.9 billion in 2011. Chinese-US trade turnover reached $448.6 billion. Russian-Chinese trade totaled $83.5 billion, Russian-EU trade $394 billion.
