US President Barack Obama had a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the conflict in Gaza. Obama is on a visit to Phnom Penh (Cambodia) for the ASEAN forum and Eastern Asian Summit, ITAR-TASS reports.
Obama emphasized that missile attacks against Israel must be stopped. US Deputy Presidential Assistant for National Security Ben Rhodes said that Washington was in touch with countries influencing Hamas (Egypt, Turkey, Qatar).
Rhodes added that Israel had the right for defense, but should focus on peaceful ways of settling the conflict.
