The police of Adygeya say that 11,500 people have been punished in 10 months this year, exceeding the number of the same period of 2011 by 22%. About 5,000 people were punished for being drunk in public and 6,500 for drinking in public, Yuga.ru reports.
72 under-aged children were caught drinking alcohol. Most homicides were committed after alcohol consumption, as stated by Gennady Berezin, Deputy Police Chief for Public Order of the Russian Interior Ministry in Adygeya, at a session of the inter-department commission for crime prevention.
Regional Healthcare Minister Rustem Meretukov said that specialists had registered non-medical consumption of narcotics among children and teenagers. Anonymous questioning and testing says that 14% school children in Maikop drink alcohol, mainly beer, 10% consumed toxic materials, 62% were smokers.
Adygeya passed a concept for realization of state policy to reduce the number of alcohol law violations and prevent alcoholism until 2020. The regional and federal Healthcare Ministries will cooperate to study reasons for alcohol poisoning.
