Azerbaijan and the IAEA are discussing clearing of the Absheron Peninsula from pollution in the Sabunchinsky and Surakhansky District.
Azerbaijani Deputy Minister for Emergencies Faig Tagizade said that the iodine plant in the Neftchalinsky District was being cleared.
IAEA spokesman Andrey Chupov said that the project to clear the areas was initiated by the Azerbaijani government. IAEA expert Jorst Moken Fernandez noted professionalism in the process.
Adil Garibov, Director of the Institute for Radiation Problems of the NASA, expressed satisfaction with the clearing of the peninsula.
