Information in the British newspaper The Sunday Times about Azerbaijan
providing territory to Israel for anti-Iranian strikes is absurd
and unfounded.
The statement came from spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry
Elman Abdullayev, commenting on reports in The Sunday Times that Israel
is going to intercept Iranian missiles with the help of unmanned jets
based in Azerbaijan.
According to the newspaper, the Israeli military plans to use Eitan - the
biggest drone in the world.
The author of the article cites an Israeli military source, who said that
if Iranian troops try to shell Israel with rockets, they must be
shot down while they are gaining speed.
There is a plan to use Eitans carrying Hellfire rockets to this end.
Eitans based in Azerbaijan are due to become part of a separate Israeli
missile defence system, the newspaper said.
"Azerbaijan's position has been voiced several times. Baku will never
allow its territory to be used against its neighbors. Azerbaijan
maintains good-neighbourly relations and will never take such a step.
