The Batkivschyna United Opposition has nominated the leader of the Batkivschyna Party, Yulia Tymoshenko, as a single presidential candidate, the Kyiv Post reports.
The united opposition's council approved this decision by initiative of the council's chairman, Arseniy Yatseniuk, at an extended meeting on Friday.
All members of the united opposition's council signed a relevant document.
On October 11, 2011, Pechersky District Court in Kyiv sentenced former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to seven years in prison for overstepping her authority when signing 2009 gas contracts with Russia. She has served her sentence in Kachanivska Penal Colony in Kharkiv since late December 2011.
