LAS urges Syrian president to resign

 

The Arab League (LAS) wants Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to resign and end the civil war. The LAS urge for his resignation was made at a ministerial session in Doha (Qatar).

Prime Minister of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani blames the regime for violence in Syria.

LAS Secretary General Nabil Elaraby wants an adequate resolution for Syria. He added that he was expecting a common position at the Geneva meeting of Russian and US diplomats with UN special envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi.

Cairo is hosting a session of the National Coalition of Opposition and Revolutionary Forces headed by Sheikh Ahmed Mouaz al-Khatib today to discuss a candidate to become the Syrian leader after the fall of the Baas Party.

Brigadier General Selim Idris will become the head of the joint military command of Syrian revolution. The general joined opposition in July.
