Turkey enters new stage of EU membership talks

Brussels boosted the talks on Turkey’s membership in the EU since Ireland’s chairmanship that started in January 2013. The enlargement resolution will be discussed on December 13-14 with focus on Turkey.

Previous resolutions called Turkey a key partner of the EU for its economic achievements and strategic position. The word “join” referring to Turkey has been absent in the resolution for five years due to disagreement of French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The EU approved the new constitutional developments in Turkey. The resolution praises Turkish economy and fight against terrorism. Special attention is paid to Turkey’s boycotting the chairmanship of the Greek part of the Cyprus.
