Russia's Federation Council has passed a new version of the compatriot law, ITAR-TASS reports.
The amendment to the law provides for the boosting of contacts with the Russian diaspora and the consolidation of the Russian-speaking community.
The citizens of Russia residing abroad as well as people, who has spiritual and cultural ties with Russia will fall into a category of compatriot.
The new law also provides compatriots with the same rights as the citizens of Russia, residing in the country, when passing exams to the universities. This category of people will also receive additional assistance in case of relocation, under the federal program.
