Russian foreign minister slams ban on adoption by US citizens

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has condemned a ban proposed by some Russian lawmakers on adoption of Russian children by US citizens.

"This is a bad idea, but I believe that eventually the State Duma will make a proper decision," the minister is quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

The initiative to ban adoption by US citizens came after the US Congress approved the Magnitsky Act that imposes sanctions on Russian officials notorious for human rights violations.
