Georgian Parliament discussing number of country’s military forces in 2013

The draft law on "Approval of the Number of Georgian Military Forces" initiated by the President was presented at a plenary session of Parliament by Parliamentary Secretary to President Dmitri Dzagnidze, Trend reports.

In accordance with the law on "National security" the number of military forces is the matter to be reviewed annually by parliament along with the budget project. According to the project, the number of military forces will not exceed 37,000 servicemen in 2013.

According to the draft, the restrictions do not apply to wartime and to the number of recruits to the backup service and temporary staff in the Ministry of Defence.
