Russia and Kazakhstan will discuss the Baikonur space port and its city by an interstate commission in Q1 2013, spokesman of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Sabit Kozhametov, said.
The Baikonur lease deal was signed in 1994. Leasing was extended to 2050. Kazakhstan cannot finance the territories leased by Russia and wants to sign an agreement to realize the Bayterek project.
Baikonur will have a special status because Kazakhstan will host Expo-2017. Guests will visit the city. It needs to improve infrastructure using modern technologies with Russian aid.
