Russian President Vladimir Putin officially approved a new strategy ofgovernment policy towards ethnic groups. The document aims to secure inter-ethnic and inter-religious peace in Russian regions.
The strategy was drafted by four former ministers of nationalities. A ministry of nationalities existed in the USSR and the former Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic, but was abandoned in the Russian Federation.
The draft was discussed by members of the Russian Public Chamber.
The document will replace a similar one approved in 1996.
