Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a governmental council in Ashkhabad that he wanted to solve the Caspian Sea problem via the international law.
The president believes that ecological protection of biological diversity and rational use of the sea’s resources are a priority goal. He emphasized devotion to finding an optimal version of the convention on status of the sea as a basic document to regulate its exploitation.
Deputy foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan, responsible for development of such convention, met in Ashkhabad on December 17-18. No progress on composition of its text was seen.
