Leaders of Tatarstan, Bashkiria, Dagestan expect successful elections

Dagestani Leader Magomedsalam Magomedov believes that his republic will have successful elections, even though direct secret votes are held for the first time, Kommersant reports.

Tatarstan Leader Rustam Minnikhanov admitted that direct elections of governors will have no problems.

Leader of Bashkiria Rustem Khamitov says that governors elected by the population have more authority than the ones appointed.

According to new amendments, the president introduces three governors for election. The United Russia Party, LDPR and part of A Fair Russia introduced a bill, stating that regional leaders are party members elected by the parliament, not the population. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that regions needed a system of power that would not infringe anyone.
