Georgian-U.S cooperation in the sphere of defense and security has been discussed at a meeting between the Georgian Minister of Defence Bacho Akhalaia and the U.S Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Ukraine, Russia and Eurasia Celeste Wallander, Trend reports.
The sides discussed reforms of the Georgian armed forces within the charter of the strategic cooperation with the U.S. They also touched upon the issue of Georgia's participation in international operations and training for the operations of the Georgian military.
Akhalaya and Wallander noted the need for a unified professional education system to work on a professional military system and exercises.
The parties discussed the Georgian-U.S plan for military cooperation in detail, the Georgian Defense Ministry said.
The Chief of Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Major-General Devi Chankotadze and other military figures attended the meeting.
Wallander also met with Georgian Deputy Prime Minister Giorgi Baramidze, Secretary of the National Security Service Eka Tkeshelashvili and State Minister for Reintegration Temur Yakobashvili.
