Rada could not fire head of National Bank

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has not managed to fire the head of the National Bank of the country, Sergey Arbuzov, who was appointed first deputy prime minister at the end of December.

Over 217 MPs voted for the resignation of Arbuzov, with 226 votes required. Yesterday the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych proposed the parliament replace Arbuzov with Igor Sorkin.

The Rada appointed the 36-year-old Arbuzov head of the Central Bank in December 2010.
