Informal OSCE summit in Alma-Ata

An informal summit of foreign ministers of OSCE members started on Friday in the former Kazakh capital of Alma-Ata. One of the main issues to be discussed is the situation in Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports, citing the chairman of the committee of international communciations of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, Roman Vasilenko.


According to Vasilenko, one of the main prioritires of the summit is the strengthening of the organization and improving its work in solving current problems.


Vasilenko also said that they are working on realizing the initiative of President Nazarbayev to hold a OSCE summit in the Kazakh capital, Astana, this year.


He expressed hope that foreign ministers of 56 countries will bring dialogue to a new level and give new dynamics to cooperation. The minister emphasized that they will take into account the problems dividing OSCE members, such as arms control, and the challenges that unite them, such as transnational threats.
