Turkish Minister for Energy Taner Yildiz has recently said that Turkey had responded to the refusal to be granted EU membership by blocking the request of Israel to the Greek Republic of the Cyprus to join the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
Israel considers such response “strange”, because it has been a member of the IRENA since 2009 and is one of the leaders in development of eco resources. Cyprus is another member of the IRENA and does not need Turkey’s permission.
Israeli diplomats say that Turkey should be cooperating with Israel in searches for alternate energy sources instead. It would normalize relations between the two states.
