Russian police oppose idea of armed Cossack squads

The Russian police oppose the idea of armed Cossack squads suggested by Krasnodar Governor Alexander Tkachyov.

The governor said in a post on Twitter that armed Cossack squads will be able to properly defend citizens.

The head of the Southern Federal District's police force, Lieutenant-General Nikolay Simakov, however, said he didn't support the initiative. "This would be a great mistake. That's my professional opinion," he said.
