Presidential candidate to back off in Armenia

Armenian presidential candidate and chairman of the National Accord Party Aram Harutyunyan said at a press conference on Tuesday that the coming presidential elections are not expected to be free and fair. No fair competition is taking place, he said.

Harutyunyan informed that he will withdraw his presidential nomination on February 8, but a day earlier, on February 7, he will start a hunger strike in front of the Central Electoral Commission.

He also called upon other candidates to back off and leave incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan alone on the ballot in order to show their protest against the undemocratic character of the elections.
