Presidents of Georgia and Azerbaijan discuss joint projects

The Georgian and Azerbaijani presidents, Ilham Aliev and Mikheil Saakashvili, discussed the realisation of energy and infrastructure projects today in Batumi. After the talks, Mikheil Saakashvili told a press-conference that "the issue of organising a Georgian-Azerbaijani standing committee on the project of cargo transportation from China and Central Asia to Europe through Georgian and Azerbaijani territory was the topic of conversation", ITAR-TASS reports.

According to Mr Aliev, Azerbaijan and Georgia cooperate successfully in the energy field, and this partnership benefits not only the whole region, but all of international energy security as well. The oil-pipelines Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum and Baku-Supsa are examples of this profitable cooperation. Ilham Aliev also stressed that many Azerbaijani companies are interested in investing in the Georgian economy.

The construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki-Kars railway and the Baku-Batumi autobahn was also discussed during the talks.
