The Russian Justice Ministry has registered the Cossack Party of the Russian Federation. Alexander Smirnov is the head of the Central Executive Committee of the party. The party was founded at a meeting in the Moscow Region on November 24, 2012, its press service reports.
Plans to form the party were announced in October 2012. Vice Governor of the Rostov Region Sergey Bondarev chaired the meeting.
Russian Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Central Federal District Alexander Beglov, chairman of the Presidential Council for Cossacks, said that the party was initiated by the population.
