Armenian candidate for president plans to quit campaign

 

Aram Arutyunyan, a candidate for president and leader of the National Consent Party, said that he will quit the campaign on February 8. He plans a hunger strike starting at 5.00 pm on February 7 and ending at 5.00 pm on February 18.

He urges other candidates to do the same, to make the elections non-competitive and, thus, illegitimate.

However, Arutyunyan plans to carry on with the politics after the elections.

Armenia will have the sixth presidential polls at 8.00 am – 8.00 pm on February 18. 8 candidates are running for president: President Serzh Sargsyan, former PM and leader of the Freedom Party Grant Bagratyan, former Foreign Minister and leader of the Heritage Party Raffi Ovannisyan, leader of theNational Self-Identification Union Paruyr Ayrikyan, former Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Arman Melikyan, a political analyst of Radio Hay Andreas Gukasyan, a researcher of epos VardanSedrakyan and leader of the National Consent Party Aram Arutyunyan.
