US welcomes closer relations between Russia and Georgia

The United States welcomes closer relations between Russia and Georgia, US Deputy Secretary of State Erik Rubin says in a statement.

"Closer relations with Russia are favourable for Georgia. Some positive changes in bilateral relations have already taken place," he says.

The official stated that Georgia can improve its relations with Russia without altering its foreign policy course.
