Russia to keep summer clock running

Russia will switch to winter time before the end of the year and will no longer be switching to summer time every year, Izvestia reports.

Natalya Timakov, press secretary of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, denied rumours about the government’s decision to switch from summer time. Sergey Kalashnikov (LDPR), head of the parliamentary committee for health, said that he was unaware of the plans, RIA Novosti reports.

President Dmitry Medvedev scrapped the procedure of switching from winter to summer time in February 2011. President Vladimir Putin noted the need to analyze the situation.

The lower chamber decided on December 21 to request the government to return to winter time. Kalashnikov said back then that people did not like the time. Speaker of the Lower Chamber of Parliament Sergey Naryshkin said that he would fulfill the request and sent a related note to the PM on December 26.
