In 2012, as part of operation "Weapon", police in North Ossetia
seized more than 70% of all weapons and ammunition seized in the North
Caucasus Federal District, the spokesperson of the Ministry of
Internal Affairs Alla Ahpolova said.
"Last year, more than 70% of all seizures of illegal arms to North
Caucasus Federal District was done by our police. Speaking in
numbers, in 2012 we seized 372 firearms, including 13 rocket
launchers, 81 machine guns, 68 carbines and rifles, 76 pistols and
revolvers and 300 grenades, 13 mines and more than 3 kg of
explosives," Ahpolova was quoted by RIA Novosti.
Since the beginning of 2013 the Republican police have registered 23
cases of the illegal trafficking of firearms, as when 12 Kalashnikovs
were seized when crossing the Russian border on January 31.
