Russian government to round up 2 years of North Caucasus development

 

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will attend a session of the governmental commission for socio-economic development of the North Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) to discuss prospects of its development and achievements of the North Caucasus Development Corporation. Medvedev will round up two years of the commission’s progress and consider realization of the Strategy for Socio-Economic Development of the NCFD until 2025 for 2013-2014.

Alexander Khloponin, Russian Vice Premier and Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the NCFD, related ministers will attend the talks.

The strategy was approved in 2010. Since then, executives have started realization of investment projects, implementing mechanisms of state guarantees, supporting tourism at exclusive economic zones and forming industrial and agricultural parks.

The 2-year’s plan includes 99 measures for development of the region.

One of its priorities is agricultural development. About 45% of the country’s grape harvest, 10% of grain, berries and vegetables, over 5% of sugar beet are grown in the NCFD. Agricultural output has increased by 22.9% (16.8% total in Russia) since 2007.

37.8 billion rubles of the federal budget and 11.8 billion rubles of the regional budget were spent on agricultural development of the NCFD in 2008-2012. Animal husbandry will continue modernization. Unemployment is planned to drop.

North Ossetia will have a multi-product animal husbandry facility built, Karachay-Cherkessia will breed Peking duck, Ingushetia will develop the cluster for beef processing.

A multifunctional exhibition center covering 30,000 square meters will be built in Mineralniye Vody.

Development of the Arkhyz Skiing Resort will continue in Karachay-Cherkessia. It includes construction of skiing and engineering infrastructure in Romantik, 270km of skiing routes with 69 elevators, 8 hotels for 1,148 visitors, cottage villages for 25,000 residents, medical, treatment and health-improvement centers, sports facilities and children’s parks.
