Armenian president visits wounded candidate for president

 

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has visited Paruyr Ayrikyan, a candidate for president and leader of the Union for National Self-Determination, Interfax reports.

The Yerevan Court has approved the request of the National Security Service to arrests the suspects who had attacked him. They are at the Center Detention facility of the Justice Ministry.

Ayrikyan requested the Constitutional Court to postpone the presidential polls of February 18 by two weeks.

Ayrikyan was shot in a shoulder at the Yerevan center on January 31.

8 candidates are running for president: President Serzh Sargsyan, former PM and leader of the Freedom Party Grant Bagratyan, former Foreign Minister and leader of the Heritage Party Raffi Ovannisyan, leader of the National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Ayrikyan, former Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Arman Melikyan, a political analyst of Radio Hay Andreas Gukasyan, a researcher of epos VardanSedrakyan and leader of the National Consent Party Aram Arutyunyan. Campaigning started on January 21.
