41-year-old Yerzhan Malgazhyiuly Mayamerov has become the Supreme Mufti of Kazakhstan today, the Kazakh Muslim Administration reports.
Mayamerov used to be the head of the Eastern Kazakh branch of the Muslim Administration. He got unanimous votes.
The mufti left middle school named after Gani Muratbayev and graduated at the Faculty of Sharia and Jurisprudence of the Al Azhar Islamic University in Egypt.
He will replace Sheikh Absattar Derbisali, who had been in office since 2000. The sheikh will focus on science and education.
