A meeting of the EU-Georgian Parliamentary Cooperation Committee has been held at the European Parliament. The parties discussed the situation in Georgia, the Georgian Parliament told Trend on Tuesday.
The parliamentary majority representatives, who were taking part in the meeting for the first time, as well as the parliamentary minority representatives attended the debates. Parliamentary majority representative Tina Khidasheli heads the Georgian delegation.
Minority representatives have drawn attention to the issues of pressure on the media and the courts, as well as the prosecution of political opponents. They stated that today the supporters of the former authorities in Georgia are being persecuted, despite the transfer of power. They also pointed to the difficulty of co-habitation between the team of President Saakashvili and the government of Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Meanwhile, the majority representatives stated that the rule of democratic principles is being formed in Georgia. This will lead to the restoration of justice in the country.
Khidasheli added that, as a result of objective investigation, the prosecutor's office began to call to account former officials guilty of legal violations.
