Russia has started chairing the UN Security Council. It is expected to raise such topics as a post-conflict settlement in Afghanistan without NATO. The UNSC talks on Afghanistan will be chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on March 19, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.
Russia plans to intensify talks on resolution 1701 on Lebanon, the Golan Heights occupied by Israel and the UN monitoring missions in Iraq and Yemen.
The mandate for the UN mission in Libya is expected to be extended. The situation in South Sudan, progress in Sierra Leone, stabilization efforts in Liberia and a UNSC resolution on Guinea-Bissau will be discussed.
