US destroyer “Winston Churchill” and its auxiliary ships will soon join the USS “John Stennis” Carrier Strike Group patrolling the Iranian coast of the Gulf. They have already passed the Suez Canal, Iran News reports.
The “Dwight Eisenhower” Carrier Strike Group is in the Mediterranean Sea and will replace them soon. It arrived to the Syrian coast in December 2012 and joined the “Iwo Jima” helicopter carrier.
The carrier has 70 strikers and 8,000 troops. The Eastern Mediterranean Strategic Group has 17 ships, including a cruiser with cruise missiles, 10 destroyers and frigates, four ships with Aegis systems.
UK’s HMS Daring left Portsmouth and headed to the Middle East in January the same year.
