Georgia to have professional army by 2017 - minister

Georgia will have a professional army by 2017, the country's defense minister Irakly Alasania says.

"We are going to turn to a professional army by the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017," the minister told a cabinet meeting today.

The minister underlined that even now 75 percent of the Georgian military were professionals.
