ICAO promises not to assign Sukhumi airport an international code

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) confirmed its recognition of the unity of Georgian airspace, so it will not assign Sukhumi airport an international code without the Georgian authorities permission, Interfax informs.

The Economics and Development Minister of Georgia, Vera Kobalia, declared that Georgia is strictly opposed to flights of all foreign aircraft to Abkhazia without the Georgian United Transport Administration's permission. The talks between Georgian and ICAO representatives in Batumi ended in the ICAO accepting Georgia's terms. The Minister added that anyone who wished to go to Abkhazia could use Poti airport, situated near the Abkhazian border.
