EC president urges Azerbaijan and Armenia to strengthen trust

President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy expressed confidence that Azerbaijan and Armenia should activate efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, The Business Year reports.

He noted that the Madrid Principles were still the basis for peace. He reminded that the EU was urging both sides of the conflict to abstain from escalation of conflict.

Rompuy noted that Brussels was supporting efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and its co-chairs in searching for a way to settle the conflict. Finding common grounds will take time, the EU official adds. There can be no peace without trust, he concludes.
