Iran to withdraw from Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

The Iranian parliament may start talks on withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, unless western states recognize its right for peaceful nuclear energy, Fars cites Alaeddin Borujeri, head of the parliamentary commission for national security and foreign affairs.

He noted that the US and other western states do not recognize reduction of nuclear weapons and recognition of Iran’s right for nuclear energy.

Thus, Iran considers the treaty pointless, Borujeri says. The Supreme Council for National Security may decide to suspend the treaty.
