Karachay-Cherkessian Leader Rashid Temrezov said that he prefers being appointed by the parliament rather than voted for by the population. He believes that direct elections are less democratic and provoke tensions in multi-ethnical regions, Kommersant reports.
Temrezov clarified that Karachay-Cherkessia would have major economic losses by organizing elections.
Ingush Leader Yunus-Bek Yevkurov is fine with direct elections and waits for the Kremlin's orders regarding the method of elections. Dagestani acting leader Ramazan Abdulatipov prefers an appointment by the parliament.
