Iran may reconsider Turkmanchay treaty

Iran may demand to reconsider the Turkmanchay peace treaty signed with the Russian Empire at the beginning of the 19th century, local lawmaker from the Ardebil province Kyamaleddin Pirmoazzen says. According to the treaty, Azerbaijan was declared an Iranian territory.

The proponents of the initiative believe that Russia occupied Azerbaijan illegally and thus the independence of the Azerbaijani Republic is also illegitimate.
