The Dagestani parliament will elect the republic's new president and pass the necessary constitutional amendments. Heads of regions have been appointed by Russian president and approved by regional MPs. According to the amendments, the republic’s leader will be elected out of three candidates proposed by the Russian president.
Members of United Russia and A Fair Russia will vote for parliamentary elections. The Communists and the Patriots of Russia will vote for general elections.
Alexander Yermoshkin, Dagestani permanent representative, said that United Russia will recommend Dagestan and Ingushetia to elect leaders via their parliaments.
The official noted that 9 regions will hold elections on the same day in September. Instability in some regions may cause falsifications, so parliamentary polls will prevent unnecessary tensions. Dagestani leader Ramazan Abdulatipov said in his three hours of broadcasting that he was fine with both parliamentary and popular elections.
