The presidential authorized envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District, Alexander Khloponin, has established a district commission as part of the presidential council for Cossack affairs, RIA Novosti reports.
The decree was signed in early July. The commission is aimed at restoring and developing the Cossacks of the NCFD. A spokesman for the department of internal affairs said that the commission will work on forming a single base of reserve staff of the Cossacks for state service, solving the issue of forming Cossack platoons within the terms of military conscription and developing Cossack culture.
Alexander Khloponin considers Cossacks a significant part of the region, saying in an interview to ‘Rossiyskaya Gazeta’ that the authorities have big expectations of them.
Khloponin said that Cossacks have a social-civil influence affecting the development of villages. He emphasized that he would like to see the state of affairs with his own eyes, as Cossack villages are unique.
The envoy expressed a desire to see Cossack forces, which could solve many issues. The situation in Dagestan, Ingushetia and other republics is quite complicated.
